Prior to the commencement of the $75.7 million Australian Governments Women's Safety Agenda, announced in the 2005 Budget, the Government provided funding toward Women's safety issues in the form of the Partnerships Against Domestic Violence Initiative and the National Initiative to Combat Sexual Assault.
- Violence Against Women. Australia Says NO
The Australian Government Office for Women (OfW) managed the national campaign Violence Against Women. Australia Says NO.
- Partnerships Against Domestic Violence (PADV)
Partnerships Against Domestic Violence (Partnerships) was an Australian Government initiative, working with State and Territory governments, the community and business to find better ways of preventing and responding to domestic violence.
- National Initiative to Combat Sexual Assault
In the 2001-02 Budget, the Australian Government announced funding of $16.5 million for a National Initiative to Combat Sexual Assault (NICSA). This initiative demonstrated the Australian Government's commitment to reducing and preventing sexual assault, and built on the substantial achievements of the Partnerships Against Domestic Violence Program. The Women's Safety Agenda will continue to work toward the development of an Australian culture that will not tolerate violence.
In the 2004-05 Budget the Government announced a further $6.7 million in funding the National Initiative to Combat Sexual Assault. These funds were used to enhance the national campaign for the elimination of violence - Violence Against Women. Australia Says NO.
